Snorkels
Snorkeling is a water activity where recreational divers, adults and children can have the opportunity to immerse themselves in to the water and view the things beneath the water surface. Children and adults like the feel of being submerged under the waters. This provides a chance to get a diver’s view on the structures of sea bed. Snorkeling is a fun activity providing a chance to swim under the sea using snorkel sets of masks, fins and a snorkel without the fear of being dipped down and drowned.
When engaging in snorkeling, a diver has to wear a set of mask, snorkel and fins. Mask provides an optical protection, putting a chance to focus on the diver’s visual interest. Divers can accelerate their swimming when using fins. Fins provide less effort in propelling at greater swimming speed. Divers enable to grasp air through the use of snorkel.
A snorkel is used by a scuba diver as a preparation for underwater plunge. Its use can help in the conservation of scuba cylinders. When a diver is still in the surface preparing for a descent, the snorkel is practically used.
Early-known snorkels are bamboo shoots or papaya branch branches. Organic materials were used by prehistoric people when they wanted to submerge under water. In movies, we see spy or lurking people use snorkels of organic materials to hide themselves under water from chasing predators. Even now, indigenous people use the convenience of organic materials when dipping under water surface.
Today, the J-shaped rigid plastic tube with a length of one or two feet is the modern snorkel used by recreational divers. A snorkel is an open-tube with a mouthpiece. The difficulty of getting air while immersed is resolved by the snorkel.
Choosing the best low –profile type of snorkels, the one that fits on your mouth when put on would make snorkeling safer and comfortable. There are features of a good snorkel and these should be the considerations when buying one. A flexible tube with a rotating mouthpiece provides convenience in allowing the mouthpiece in synchronization with the swimming motion. Hose cover and purge valves are helpful features in the prevention of water from the snorkel. The diameter of the tune should not be more than an inch or thinner than three-fourth of an inch. The right diameter provides an easy breathing with a room enough to draw in air. A snorkel should not also be too lengthy or too short. Shorter tube has a problem of easy water containment that might lead the diver of exhaustion from frequently getting the water out from the tube. Longer tube has the possibility of inhaling too much carbon dioxide instead of oxygen. The oxygen cycle is distorted because of the lengthy passage that may eventually cause suffocation to the diver.
Some snorkels are attached to masks making the snorkel and the mask a one item. However, there is a variety that detaches the snorkel from the mask. When opting for that variant, it is better not to forget the snorkel or the mask as these two items go together. Another variant is a snorkel with a vest or coined as snorkel vest. This gear, aside from the snorkel, has a vest that helps the diver to float. Though considered a fancy gear, snorkel vest when worn to a child provides security when snorkeling.
Snorkeling is a water sport that is enjoyed by children and adults. A set of snorkels, masks and other gears are essential for a good snorkeling adventure. The importance of snorkel is synonymous to safety. Snorkel is worn to prevent panic during water current and provide a chance to breathe for a longer period while immersed under water.
